With a loud, booming noise, the screen flashed suddenly.

RESIDENT KOOOOPAAAAAA.

Peach jumped, that got her every time. It was silly but it did. Her last play was marked at three months earlier. It's been too long since they did this, apparently.

"...Ah, I had...forgotten how to play."

Daisy wasn't scared. She had just clung to Peach because she was cold. Yeah, that was it, and not at all because she was startled too.

"It's okay, it's okay!" she reassured her, slowly letting go and smoothing out her sleep shirt nonchalantly. "It's like a bicycle, you'll get it back in no time. Wow, has it really been that long since we played this?"

Right, right right right. None of them were scared, not at all. Not Peach, she was secretly a really tough and bold princess (in all seriousness she can be). She wasn't scared of a video game. No way, no sir.

"Ah yes, yes yes," said Peach softly as she started actually playing the game. She started slowly moving the character from one place to another.

Well she got walking down.

Then she had the avatar pick up a weapon, then drop it, then pick it up again and fire it...this was what getting used to a game felt like. Like an alien world.

"Careful with the ammo," Daisy said, "they don't give you a lot of it!"

With the lights out and the game running, eerie sounds playing, it felt almost like a haunted house as they got Peach up and exploring the Dry Bones infested landscape.

"You never know when those things are gonna pop out at you..."

"I know I know, I just, aaaah," softly muttered Peach as she finally seemed to get a grip.

"Simply getting my bearings, okay. I think I'm okay."

She was just going to move her avatar around this corner...

And a Dry Bones leaped at the character and bit his head off.

YOU ARE DEAD.

...

...

"...Wow. Uh... That's what save files are for, I guess...?"

Such cheating bullshit. What was this, Five Nights at Geno's?

"I just remember why I was so stuck."

That pizza, whenever it got here, was going to have to wait. Apparently. It was her first death and, by damn, she was already fired up to not let this go down.

"Alright, we are going to get passed this. Take turns?"

"Works form me. We won't let this game beat us!" Daisy declared triumphantly. "I'll take the next shot, you can grab a slice of pizza until your turn," she suggested.

"Ahhh we're literally taking turns then. Alright, you fuel up on that pizza and I'll...try to take care of this. One more shot, the turns start now."

There was a look of some serious determination on her face. Okay so, while Daisy did her thing Peach started the game again. She knew the controls again and made an attempt to think about what happened earlier in the game as means to remember what even was going on in the story.

It's been too long after all.

She rounded that corner again and when the Dry Bones came again, kaboom. Almost on instinct, Peach got the wing of it again using her sheer will and determination. The poor Dry Bones head flew right off its shoulders.

"Sweet!" Daisy called out after she swallowed a mouthful of pizza, throwing her hands up in the air. "Now you're playing with power!" she declared, sitting forward to watch. "If I remember right, we were trying to find some square key or something," she said.

"Sqaure?" Peach questioned, pausing the game and turning to her friend for a minute. "I could've sworn it was a triangle..."

Spoilers: it was probably both.

"Never mind, I'm sure we'll figure it out eventually. Right?"

So she turned another corner and found a few more Bones, in which were blasted promptly. She was getting the hang of this again. She rounded a ledge and a trap triggered, sending Peach down a spiked pit.

Death.

"...You had to disarm that."

"Duly noted," Daisy said, offering Peach a slice of pizza while she plucked the controller out of her best friend's hands. "All right, Shoot the Dry Bones, then find that whatever it was key. Disarm the trap first..."

She started to work on it, tongue poking out the corner of her mouth while she got in the survival horror gaming zone. "Wait, was there a boss coming up soon? You remember anything about that?" she asked.
