Casey isn't actually sure where he is right now, but it's kind of cold and it's uncomfortable and...white? Really really white. On one side. The other side is just black, and he vaguely registers that has something cold covering it. He squeezes his eye shut and a few moments later his vision clears.

And everything hurts and he tastes blood. At this rate he won't have a tooth left in his head by the time he graduates.

It's a hospital bed, because of course it is. Where else does he ever wake up after he's blacked out?

You'd think the suburbs would have far fewer opportunities to get into fights without the crowded tension of the big city. But when you find a group of punks trying to smash a store window and you have a hockey stick anyway and they've already called your mother something nasty...

What else was he to do?

He can probably sit up without power-ralphing all over the nurse who's cleaning a wound on his leg, but she tells him to stay still while she works and the doctor will be in shortly. Casey can only wonder who they've called if they couldn't get hold of his dad...

[Was Daria really one of his emergency contacts? She actually didn't know that; until she received that phone call. She was simply sitting on her bed, reading The Scarlet Letter. Then her cell rang, not recognizing the number.

It was a risk, but something beckoned her to answer.

"Hello?"

"Hello, is this Miss Morgendorffer? Daria?"

"...Yes, you would be correct. So who's this?"

"Mr. Casey Jones has you listed here as a contact, he's in the Lawndale ER and-"

"I'm coming."

That was it then. Daria grabbed her keys and her backpack and ran out the door. She bumped into her parents, and both Helen and Jake let her go the moment she mentioned "Casey" and "hospital". Helen offered to drive her, but Daria assured she was going to be okay. She wanted a silent drive to calm her. But she was heading over there fast. Parking her car and running in, she was going through the motions. She verified her identity and was led to Casey's room by a nurse. Casey would see her walk on in, not saying a word. Cool as a cucumber.]

[So he might have what are pretty definitely knife wounds and one eye is swollen shut but that's no reason not to smile at Daria when she comes in. He's genuinely glad to see her, A, and B...he did something kind of awesome, didn't he? He's pretty proud of himself.

Just a matter of convincing Daria that it's totally awesome. He manages to wave, and tries to great her.

It just comes out as coughing. He hasn't had water in awhile, apparently. Bad start.]
