When: Valentine's Day
Where: Garry's room OR WHEREVER LIZ DECIDES
Setting: Smash Academy [with acting like Ib's been there for a while]

[ It was Valentine's Day, a day of love. Ib had never really 'participated' in the day, except for once last year. Generally, she knew the day through the advertisements on TV and the colours of red and pink inside the stores, and how each of her parents would give one another a gift. They would get a look of surprise on their faces, and it always made Ib smile to see.

It was a little saddening, to know she would be missing out on that... there were other small things, too. But knowing that Garry would be close by, even when she was so far away from home, made her feel a bit better. She wasn't going to be lonely with him nearby. And if she wanted, Ib knew she could always phone home - which she would, later on.

But for around lunchtime, Ib decided to go and pay Garry a visit. She wasn't sure if he had class or if he would be somewhere else... but if he wasn't there, then she could try his classroom or the cafeteria, she thought. Or wait to see him later, even. He had given her permission to visit him whenever she wanted to or so i'm gonna say ha ha ha.

So, standing outside his door with a small bag in one hand, Ib gave a knock knock knock upon his door. Garry, are you in? ]

[Garry was in. An attentive of the door. He had many a red boxes filled with his little sampler of Valentines...but seeing as it was the holiday, Garry expected someone to come around. He made some great friends here, afterall.

One of which he would never ever, EVER turn down a visit. Someone who totally gave permission to visit whenever she pleased.]

Coooming~!

[Garry sang that and before Ib knew it, the door opened slowly to reveal Garry. Upon sight, he smiled. Always happy to see his best friend, after all.]

Hello there, Ib! Happy Valentines' Day.

[Just wanted to get that out there.]

Happy Valentine's Day.

[ His joyful voice and cheery presence was enough that if any sadness had still lingered in Ib's heart, it would have been the size of an ant at the sight of Garry's smile.

She lifted up the bag hanging in her hand, taking it into both before she held it out in front of her for him to accept. Since he had given happy wishes, she thought that now would be okay to present him with his gift. The bag was rather fancy, with a shiny red exterior and a red, rope-y handle to it. A little card hung from the side too. ]

I got you chocolates.

[ Though there were two boxes inside, but shh. ]

...For me? Aw, Ib, you shouldn't have.

[Aw Ib...Garry takes the adorable little bag. He won't look into it yet. Not for one second. He positions to the couch. With everything so dangerous lately, a holiday afternoon does wonders. And well, it always does Garry better to know that Ib is safe. As long as he was around, nothing was going to hurt her unless they tried to get past his dead body.]

I have a Valentines' gift for you too! Why don't you take a seat. I made some chocolate tea, would you like some?

[ ~~Please don't get killed, Garry.~~ She nodded at him, her small smile widening a bit at the offer of chocolate tea and talks of gifts. Ib hadn't been really been expecting a gift in return. ]

Yes please. Thank you.

[ With the invitation there for Ib to go in, she did, finding a place to take a seat. She placed her hands in her lap, and took a look at his room from where she sat.

Chocolate tea... Ib wondered how different it tasted from hot chocolate. ]

[Sophisticated as all hell. That's what it tastes like. Sophistication. He pours a cup for her an brings it to her. Of course you were getting a gift.

Silly Ib.]

And there you go! I put in some milk for you, let me know if you want any sugar or anything else.

[He heads off to the direction of another room. While also popping in a lemon candy. He can't smoke with Ib here, no sir.]

I'll be right back, I'll go get your gift!

[ Oh man, Ib knows some things about being sophisticated. She takes the cup happily, holding it by the handle like a proper little girl. And with Garry already on the move again, she only gets to nod in before he's off, and a small 'Okay'

So, now it's her in his room. Ib looks down to her cup, lifting it up closer to her face to take a smell of it. It smells really good... Briefly, she places the palm of her free hand against the side of the cup, feeling its heart warm her hand. But she moves it away before it gets too hot, and blows on the top a few times. Too hot right now, but she can wait.

And maybe, since she's just sitting there, she can swing her legs a bit, slowly and idly. ]

[Yeah, while you were doing little girl things, Garry was doing...um. Something. The quiet in the room would have made it so Ib can here occasional "Oooh, it was here.." and "I thought it was...". It was but a few moments before a sheepish Garry poked his head out of his room.]

Oh, how embarrassing...I'm sorry, Ib.

[He walked out with his hands behind his back.]

Sorry it took so long anyway, but I found what I was looking for. Phew...

That's okay.

[ Once Garry returns, Ib returns her attention back to him, stopping the swinging of her legs straight away. She can see him with his hands behind his back, and it does make her tilt her head slightly to look... but not too much, until she brings it back to look at him.

She shouldn't peek, should she? But she is really curious... and though he had gone after saying she had gotten a present for her, Ib didn't want to outright ask to see it. That would be rude, wouldn't it?

Let's not be impatient! ]

[See now. Garry got something pretty special. Even with the very little money he had, he can put something aside. He's been very good with money lately, and he's been even better saving up an amount due to his job. So one day, he went to an antique shop...]

Now...close your eyes and hold out your hands.

[ There had been a thought in Ib's mind, with the way he hid his hands, whether she should close her eyes, or offer to close them. But to hear Garry ask it- well, there was no doubt then.

Ib did as he asked, first putting down the untouched cup of chocolate tea onto the nearest surface, then putting out her hands flatly in the air, palms up, and closing her eyes. ]

... Like this?

[ The tiny and curious smile is still there on her lips- she can't wipe that off so easily. ]

That's perfect...Now, keep them shut...

[Garry took the thing behind his back and placed it in her hands. Ib would feel something cold and hard. An observant one would feel the shape and the chain it came with.]

Okay, open them now.

[ Ib felt the coldness and how the object sat in her hands, and how it seemed both hard and light. She wanted to curl her fingers around it - it felt small enough to do that. But she didn't get to, not before Garry told her to open her eyes. Obediently Ib did so, and she looked to her hands.

A locket.

Was it a locket, or just a necklace...? Whichever it was, it had her full attention. Her expression had changed, her child-like smile replaced by lips parted in a small 'o' shape. Carefully, Ib brought the jewellery to her, keeping the chain and the main in both hands as she did so.

The design on the front was beautiful. She couldn't muster up a word as she examined it, finally moving it over to just one hand so she could touch the front. It chilled the tip of her fingers at first, reminding her of the coldness of its body, but Ib didn't mind. She felt those dips, circling around the sides of the heart.

The chain was delicate too, in her hand, it looked so fragile, but it was just as beautiful too, just like how the chains of her mother's necklaces would look when tucked away in her box.

It was just... so lovely. Sorry, Garry, hope you don't mind standing there. ]

[The mesmerized expression gave Garry a giddy feeling. He saw how you were looking at the locket as if it were a new found treasure.]

Why don't you try it on? Just in case if you really like it or not. Hopefully it doesn't feel heavy on you.

[ If she could have realised how silent she had been, Ib would have apologied- but when Garry spoke, all she could do was look at him with that soft, fond expression on her. ]

Will you help me put it on, Garry?

[ Ib stood up, cradling the locket as she did, but opened up her palms once she was standing. She noticed though, that she had gotten up without even waiting for him to say yes or not- because she wanted that much to wear it. ]

Please...

[ Selfishly, she didn't want to include such words as 'if that's okay' or 'if you want to'. She already knew that she wanted to wear it at all times, and she wanted to do it from that moment. ]

[Oh come on, Ib. Garry saying "no" to you? Over something like this? Nope.]

Oh course I will. These clamps can be hard sometimes. Alright, hold on a second here...

[He calmly takes the locket and goes behind her. He fiddled with the chain a moment, trying to get it to go in the clamp. After all that fidgeting, Garry got it on. Ib had her new locket. There's a mirror on the other side of the room, wanna go check?]

[ Oh, of course she does! Though at first she picks up the locket in her hands, to see it dangling from the chain around her neck. And she turns, to look at Garry with a smile that says "thank you" without Ib needing to speak it.

But she will just go to that mirror next, to see how it looks on her. The gold chain still hangs over around her hair, and it looks somehow pretty to see it spread out like that. But she takes her hair, freeing it out from it and allowing the locket to fall down her chest even further than it had.

Ib knew that her family could afford anything. They had plenty of money that they never had to worry. She was lucky, she knew, luckier than other people, that she could ask for anything from her parents and, if they allowed it, to be granted with any toy or possession it was.

But even so, the times that she were granted presents were on special occasions, and truthfully, there were very few times that Ib had ever wanted anything more than she already had. She still remembered when she was gifted the handkerchief by her mother- she had remembered that Ib had spotted it on one of their shopping trips, and how the intricate detail of the lace had left her mesmerised for a while.

Right there, looking into that mirror.. it was like she had found a new treasure. A new, special thing to become mesmerised by, when nobody else was looking.

Ib turned, finally paying attention to the man that had given to her such a precious gift. That purple-haired adult, the one who had become one of her closest friends, if not the closest. There was a part of her that didn't know how to thank him, like she didn't deserve a thing like that on this day...

But she knew that Garry wouldn't want to hear words like that, and, now that she had it, Ib didn't want to let go of it. She walked over to him, and in little time, her arms were around him and her head was against his chest. A big hug, for a big friend. ]

I'll wear it everyday, Garry. I'll take good care of it... I promise.

[If Ib did say such things, he would've told it off. Absolutely. Ib deserved the best. As much as she thought he was special, the feeling was mutual.

Ib was Garry most precious friend. He wouldn't be here without this mature young lady. She was younger, but she was more mature than even some of his older friends he'd had.

Garry didn't have much monetary things, but he was happy. He had the best of friends anyone could ask for.

And Ib was probably his closest friend...no. No she was like the little sister he never had.

When she hugged him, he took a second only to register the hug. And then Ib would feel thin, and yet, comfortingly warm arms around her.]

I know you will, I have faith in you. I'm so glad you love it.

[ The girl was left smiling against Garry's body from his words and his returned embrace, feeling a warmness that she only felt when she hugged either of her parents. She wasn't a lonely girl, not one who had no friends or other relatives in her life, but there was such a difference between the body of a child her age and a person older than her. They felt... warmer. Safer.

Or maybe those were only sensations that could be contributed to people like her family and Garry. Whatever it was, Ib received from the hug a comforting feeling, one that made her not entirely want to move away from Garry, but she did, just so she could look up to his face. ]

I do. [ Her arms slid down to her sides, then went up to the locket as she looked again to the present. She had felt the hinge on one side, and a slight bump on the other side, that, Ib assumed, was to help open it up. She moved her thumb nail along the ridge, hoping to safely pry it open. ]

People put pictures inside lockets, don't they?

[In order to help, Garry goes and softly takes his hand to open it for her as she tried to handle it. Garry held the pendant in his hand. Since it was on her neck, it made it easy to show her. Gently of course, since it was being worn. There is a mirror, and an empty slot for a picture.]

See? There we go. This locket is pretty big so you can put in a nice sized picture I think.

[ She lets Garry take the locket without any resistance, watching him open it up and then taking it back once he was done. It was true- there was a small mirror inside, one that Ib could make out a portion of her face in.

But she looked at the empty side... ]

... I'll put my parents inside.

[ And the thought made her happy, to think she could see their face if she did. A picture of them together... or maybe even one with her in it, too. ]

I'll ask my mother for one.

That's perfect, Ib! I'm sure they'd like that.

[...She's so happy. It made Garry so happy. He knew it would be the right gift. After all, it must be hard. Being away from your parents. Mature or not, Ib was still young and close with her dad and mom. So having something of them close would probably make her feel better when she missed them. Or at least, make it so that she would call them more often or something. The deed being done, and refusing to go dark into details. Garry went somewhere else in his train of thought.]

...Well then, we still have much of the afternoon. Is there something you might like to do? I have the rest of the day off. All my homework and teacher work is done!

[ Garry's agreement was an added bonus to the decision, and she smiled as she gave the opened locket another look. Finally though, she closed it when Garry spoke up again, and, instead of letting it fall and dangle under its own weight, Ib guided it down enclosed in one of her hands.

But before she answered, Ib hesitated. She knew what she wanted to do, but it was a special day today... not the sort where she should make requests such as "hog Garry". ]

I'd like to spend the day with you... but isn't there anyone you want to see for today, Garry?

Hm?

[Garry knew where that comment was coming from. Anyone else to spend Valentines' with?...No one is particular. He had his friends, and he gave them their treats too for today. Other than friends, Garry had no one. But he was cool with that. He only smiled softly. He wanted to spend today with Ib.]

You worry too much. It's okay, Ib. I want to spend some time with you, that's why I asked.

[ Maybe she did worry a lot, but it was only because she cared. Garry was much older, and he didn't have to spend as much time as he did with a younger person than him.

... but he was okay with it, so she smiled and accepted it. ]

... I haven't tried your tea yet. [ She looked back to the cup, where it sat next to her seat. ] Can we stay in here for a while?

[ But she remembered the bag she had given to Garry, and the extra thing inside. ]

There's something else, too...

Sure, Ib.

Haha, maybe I'll have some tea too while we're thinking about it.

[He was honestly cool with that. Nothing was better than a relaxing afternoon. Maybe they can watch a movie. He goes to get himself a cup when he heard Ib.]

...Something else?

[ Seeing him look at her, Ib shakes a head a little, looking down. ]

It isn't much... [ She then looks over to where he had put the back. ] But they might be nice with the tea...

[ Should she get them herself? Or should she let Garry find them for himself? Ib wonders for a moment, but decides to go over to the bag herself. She slips her hands inside and gets out the appropriate box, the more sizeable of the two and less fancily wrapped. It isn't a red, but a blue instead with soft tissue paper around it, and a glimmering lighter-blue ribbon around it, to tie it together.

With the box in her hands, Ib turns to face Garry, and takes the few steps towards him. Holding it in her hands, she looks at it, then at Garry shyly. ]

... I made them myself.

[ Inside the box ~~to ruin the surprise early in tags~~, should Garry open it, has four different looking type of bicuits inside. Lemon biscuits, gooey chocolate cherry cookies, strawberry and apricot biscuits, and toffee apple cookies. Each handmade, and carefully so. There's a stack of five in each corner of the box, neatly piled together. They don't look bad, but Ib had been practising baking them in secret for this day. Someone got fat on the salvageable prototypes. ]
